I absolutely love designing homes. My decision to start an interior design business came about when my husband and I were remodeling the bathroom and kitchen of our 980 square foot cottage. This was the first time I had the idea to start an interior design business. My day job during this project was working in software sales. I was selling 3D models for large Universities and Corporations helping them to showcase their architecture virtually to visitors and potential students.
Prior to my time in software sales I was the home department manager at Anthropologie.I enjoyed learning the stories about the merchandise along with the psychological concept of visual appeal. Based on where you place merchandise and how individuals flow through your stores floor plan that merchandise may or may not catch their eye. I loved playing around with placement and seeing how visitors of the store would respond. This directly related to how we feel when we enters someone’s home and what rooms we are drawn into.
Years passed and my husband and I decided to take on another project - a home renovation. We decided to add nearly 1700 square feet to our beautiful 980 square foot home. This project is what made me decide to officially start HL DESIGNS. I learned so much about space planning, articulating visual concepts, communicating those visions to your craftsmen and women, and sourcing just the right item. It takes time, patience, and a talented eye. I realized in this process that I absolutely love designing homes.
I started HL DESIGNS to help other people be able to see their homes potential through unique design. It is very difficult when looking at the blank canvas, or sometimes the cluttered canvas, to know what it could be. I want to help people find the right layout, the best function, and the most beautiful design elements to bring into their home.
No project is too small. An update to a bathroom makes an extreme difference. A re-organized pantry brings function and purpose to your every day life. If you have an idea, do not hesitate to reach out for an initial consultation. I look forward to seeing you and your home soon.
Cheers, MHL
